Student scientific movement

Activities of student scientific movement are primarily conducted by student scientific circles. Currently there are 11 such circles at Agricultural University in Krakow and these comprise 65 thematic sections. They bring together the most brilliant and active young people eagerly seeking their own forms of research and enthusiastic about learning and science. They form small specialised teams which work under the supervision of academic staff members.

The circles conduct research in various forms, such as expeditions and special scientific camps, as well field studies and laboratory analyses. The results are presented regularly at numerous sessions and scientific symposia in Poland but also in the Ukraine and Slovakia.

The University Session of Student Scientific Circles takes place at our university each year and is a conclusion of all year work and occasion for presentation of results to the whole academic community. It is preceded by a publication containing all papers presented at faculty sessions of student scientific circles. 115 papers were published in the academic year 2005/2006, 32 of which were presented at the University Session of Student Scientific Circles. The best papers were granted special awards and distinctions.

In the academic year 2006/2007 the All Poland Session of Student Scientific Circles will be held at the turn of April and May 2007 ; it will be organised by the Agricultural University in Krakow.

Scientific camps are another form of work of student scientific circles. Only during the 2006 summer break there were 19 such camps, in Poland and Slovakia, in which participated 200 students. Members of Horticultural Student Scientific Circle participated in the expedition to Czarnohora (Ukraine) where they conducted investigation on the indigenous Carpathian flora. They will present their results in scientific publications.

We have observed a growing interest in working in scientific circles among students, which is best demonstrated by newly formed circles and sections .

Currently there are 11 student scientific circles at our University formed by the students of: Agriculture, Fishery, Environmental Engineering, Land Surveying, Forestry, Horticulture, Biotechnology, Agricultural technology, Computer Science and Food technology.
