Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme at the Agricultural University of Krakow was established by the resolution of the University Senate in 1995.

The programme last 4 years and lead to the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy in the following: Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science, Horticulture, Food Technology and Nutrition, animal husbandry and PhD in Forest Sciences in the field of Forestry. Applicants for the programme must hold degrees of Master of Science or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and be under 30. They should be graduates of Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Environmental Engineering, Food Technology, Agricultural engineering or other academic disciplines related to biological sciences. Conditions of admission are published in newspapers three months before the beginning of the course. Information is also available from the University Office of Admissions.

Subjects obligatory for all students constitute 62% of the curriculum and 38% consist of specialist subjects related to a chosen discipline. Over the whole period of studies the students participate in seminars of the unit in which they conduct research work for their doctoral dissertation. Each student is obliged to teach classes since the second year of studies.

The doctoral procedure and presentation of the doctoral thesis are supervised by the faculty council which has right to grant PhD degrees in the field in which the doctoral students prepares their theses.

The doctoral students may apply for a scholarship which is awarded for eight semesters. They may get accommodation at a student dormitory. Currently there are 151 persons enrolled in the PhD programme at the Agricultural University of Krakow.
